"I found out the hard way that a good agent makes a big difference—even within the same insurance provider. My husband and I had been with State Farm for over 35 years, and our original agent eventually sold his book of business to Gary Chandler. I never questioned it or considered shopping around until we were notified that State Farm would no longer insure our vehicles unless my daughter moved out and obtained insurance elsewhere. He suggested we reapply for auto insurance in a year. We mentioned this to our neighbor, who suggested we reach out to another neighbor we were somewhat acquainted with—though we didn’t realize he was also a State Farm agent. After speaking with him, we moved all of our policies. Our new agent not only explained everything clearly but also compared our home, rental, and auto coverage—including costs—from what we had with Gary to what we would have going forward. Just our home and rental policies alone now have more coverage for $100 less per month than what we were paying with Gary Chandler. While Gary is friendly and personable, he is not an agent we would recommend to friends and family. He didn’t review our policies the way our original agent did—or the way our new agent has. There’s no comparison. I truly thought State Farm wasn’t as good as it used to be, but it turned out to be the agent. Be sure to compare your insurance coverage and costs with other agents on an annual basis."
